HoneyBook alternative

Leaving HoneyBook? Read this first.

HoneyBook is a capable product and plenty of studios should stay on it. This page is for the ones who keep hitting the same walls: price per tier, automations that feel basic, and a project-first record that splits one couple across several jobs.

Here is why people switch, what Semuko does differently, and how to move without dropping a booking.

Why people switch

The reasons that come up most

Taken from HoneyBook’s own pricing page and from reviews on G2, checked October 2026. Reviews are individual opinions, so weigh them that way.

  • Key features sit on higher tiers

Starter is $29 a month billed yearly. The scheduler, automations, QuickBooks Online and team members start on Essentials at $49 a month billed yearly. Multiple companies and unlimited team members are on Premium at $109.
  • Price increases

Several G2 reviewers say their cost rose without matching new value. One describes going from about $250 to over $500 a year.
  • Automations described as basic

Some reviewers want conditional, if-then style workflow logic rather than a fixed sequence of steps.
  • Reporting and integrations

Reviewers ask for deeper reporting and more connections to other tools, especially for larger projects.

What Semuko does differently

Same job, different shape

  • Client first, not project first

The couple or client is the record. Every event, session and invoice sits underneath, so repeat bookings and multi-event weddings stay in one history.
  • Your own payment processor

Connect Stripe, Square, PayPal, Paddle, Lemon Squeezy or Helcim. Split balances into payment plans for long engagements.
  • Wedding-day tools in the CRM

Event timelines couples can approve, staff scheduling for second shooters and crews, and equipment kits.
  • Connects to the rest of your stack

Google Calendar, Zoom and Google Meet, Gmail and Microsoft 365, QuickBooks Online and Xero, Twilio texting, Facebook Lead Ads, Zapier, and a public API and MCP server (on Studio Pro and Agency Unlimited). See integrations.
  • AI that is optional and uses your key

Ask Semu works on the open client, asks before saving, and runs on your OpenAI, Anthropic or Gemini key. Turn it off and nothing else changes.
  • When to stay on HoneyBook

If you rely on HoneyBook’s built-in payments, its financing or balance products, or its 60-day money-back guarantee, and the project model suits you, switching may cost more than it saves.

Switching checklist

Move without dropping a booking

Most studios run both tools for a short overlap. This order keeps that overlap calm.

  1. Export from HoneyBook

Export your contacts and whatever project or payment reports your plan lets you download. List every upcoming project with its date, remaining balance and payment schedule, and save copies of signed contracts and paid invoices.
  2. Start the Semuko trial

Start a 30-day trial. No credit card, so you can set up at your own pace.
  3. Connect payments, calendar and email

Connect your payment processor, Google Calendar and your sending address before you invite any client in.
  4. Rebuild packages, contracts and questionnaires

Recreate your packages, contract wording and inquiry form. This is also a good moment to drop what you no longer sell.
  5. Import clients and upcoming events by CSV

Use CSV import for clients, leads, events and invoices. Check remaining balances against your HoneyBook export.
  6. Set up your first workflow

Start with one: inquiry reply, booking confirmation and payment reminders. Add more once it runs.
  7. Point new inquiries at Semuko

Swap the contact form on your website. Finish weddings already in progress in HoneyBook, then cancel when the last one is paid.

FAQ

HoneyBook alternative questions

What is a good HoneyBook alternative?

It depends on why you are leaving. Semuko is a client-first CRM for wedding, event and creative businesses with booking, proposals, contracts, payment plans, questionnaires, workflows, a client portal and event timelines. If you mainly want a project-first tool with HoneyBook’s own payments and financing products, staying may be the better call.

How much does HoneyBook cost compared with Semuko?

On HoneyBook’s pricing page (checked October 2026) Starter is $29 a month billed yearly, Essentials $49 and Premium $109, with scheduler and automations starting on Essentials. Semuko lists Essentials at $39.95 a month, Studio Pro at $79.99 and Agency Unlimited at $149.99, with 10% off yearly billing.

Can I import my HoneyBook data into Semuko?

Yes. Semuko has a free HoneyBook importer: export your contacts, projects and completed payments from HoneyBook as CSV files and the import wizard maps them into clients, leads, events and paid invoices, and attaches contract PDFs you download. HoneyBook has no invoice export, so open invoices and payment schedules are rebuilt in Semuko, as are templates such as contracts and emails. See the step-by-step guide at /switch/honeybook.

Does Semuko have an AI assistant like HoneyBook AI?

Semuko has Ask Semu, an optional assistant inside the app that works on the client you have open. It runs on your own OpenAI, Anthropic or Gemini key, asks before it saves anything, and the CRM works fully with AI turned off.

What payment processors does Semuko use?

You connect your own processor account: Stripe, Square, PayPal, Paddle, Lemon Squeezy or Helcim. Card fees are set by that processor.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. Every Semuko plan starts with a 30-day free trial and no credit card.
